2014 Australia-China Symposium on Energy

hosted by the Australia-China Joint Research Centre for Energy

Date: 13 – 15 May 2014

Venue: Taiyuan, China

Securing cheap energy supply and reducing CO2 emissions are a top priority agenda for each government. Australia and China have great similarities in their current energy supply and share common challenges in meeting their future energy needs with reduced CO2 emissions. The Australia-China Joint Research Centre for Energy has been established jointly by the Australian and Chinese governments as a key platform for collaboration in the research and development of novel low emission technologies. The Joint Research Centre covers both fossil fuels and renewables. Further details can be found at:

http://www.innovation.gov.au/science/internationalcollaboration/acsrf/JointResearchCentres/Pages/JRCenergy.aspx

The Joint Research Centre will host the 2014 Australia-China Symposium on Energy. The Symposium will provide an opportunity for knowledge sharing, information exchange and networking for those engaged in the research, development and deployment of low-emission energy technologies in Australian and Chinese research institutions, industry and governments.

Symposium Key Themes

The Symposium will cover both fossil fuels and renewables.  While submissions in any area of energy science and engineering will be considered, submissions on the following topics are particularly welcome:

· Clean coal technology

· Bioenergy/biofuels

· Energy materials and storage, including fuel cells

· CO2 capture, storage and utilisation

· New power system and assessment

Venue

The Symposium will be held on 13-15 May 2014 in Taiyuan, China . Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi Province, which is located in the middle of China .Shanxi province is a key energy base for the growing Chinese economy. Taiyuan is only 50 mins by air and 2.5 hours by high speed train from Beijing, the capital of China .

Technical Tours

Possible technical tours are being arranged, which might include (1) Huadun methanol gasoline station; 2) Key lab of coal science and technology; 3) Pilot scale demonstration of polygeneration system in Xinfu high innovation park.

Publication

Selected papers will undergo peer-review for possible inclusion in a special issue in Fuel Processing Technology. Special issues in other journals are also considered, depending on submissions.
